Willington Emergency Services
There seems to be some interest in the Emergency Services in Town. One anonymous blogger wrote "I would be interested in knowing opinions regarding Emergency Services in our town. Why the need for two Fire Deparmtents, one department paid, the other not etc..It seems to me that one unit would provide a better service, better budgeting etc. It is very rare to have two seperate departments in a town of 6,000." Any opinions out there.

Just revisiting an old and settled issue. Find something else to discuss.
'Old issue', yes - 'Settled', absolutely NOT. The operational problems and inefficiencies arise every day and at every call. The system is it is currently running is still broken and will remain that way until a few people give up their egos or until someone in town government has the guts to do something about it.
In the past two years without the constant harrassment of the former addministration the two departments in town have worked together to come up with a response package that involves everyone in both departments and has a response policy for apparatus to respond in the most timely fashion regardless of district lines. In other words without worrying about the selectmen causing distention between the two departments we have been able to focus our efforts on giving the tax payers the absolute best service we can provide. The problem I see is certain people in town like to put down the few volunteers we have instead of joining and trying to help. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
I agree with the essence of the comment stating the the fire departments are working together and will add my opinion to that thought.
I will use the term firefighters although they do much more than that.
All of our firefighters put life and limb in danger on a daily basis. These people, volunteer or paid, do a great service to our community. They are the people that take the risk.
To even suggest that politics should govern their operation is nonsense.
These are BIG people that are devoted to the community.
Let them work out any problems between themselves, which I am sure they will do. Actually I think it has been done.
